Backups

Do you store important files on your computer? If you are like most people, you store precious pictures, videos and even that dreaded tax information on your computer. And, again, if you are like most people you do not back this information up. This is a big mistake and one that happens way too often.

The files you store on your computer are often priceless, but unfortunately bad things can happen to your computer. Hard drives die, viruses corrupt data, there could be a fire... the longer you go without a backup the more likely disaster will happen. How do I know this? Murphy's law.

Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time, in the worst possible way.
Mr. Murphy may have overstated things a bit, but still, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure and that is where backups come in. A backup is simply the process of storing your important data in a second place, very often to an external hard drive. Now, if the hard drive in your computer dies you will be able to restore your data from the external drive. Great! But what if the unimaginable happens and a fire or tornado hits your house? In that case, you will have lost both your computer and the backup!

A better solution is to use a online backup service. In this scenario you upload your files to a company that specializes in data backup, and if anything bad were to happen your files would still be safe and secure in the data center!

If there is one thing I can convince you to do, it is to get some sort of backup system together. I don't care if you do it yourself or decide to use someone else, but please get your backups in order! Of course, if you would like some help in getting backups setup, I would be more than willing to help. I recommend utilizing an online backup service, but can also help you in setting up backups to an external hard drive.
